So again - Shame on Asus for not including these drivers in the sound card driver install package. Windows then refused to automatically install generic drivers for it, and I had to hunt and manually install the drivers I found.
The reason I figured this out was because I uninstalled a random ASMEDIA controller in device manager not knowing it was actually my sound card, and then my sound card stopped worked. I'm still dumbfounded that Asus does not include these as part of the sound card installation package given that their Strix sound cards are dependent on Windows loading up appropriate drivers when it detects the ASMEDIA USB controller on the PCIE slot.Īlso note that if Windows for some reason fails to automatically install generic drivers for the ASMEDIA controller when it first detects the sound card in the PCIE slot that you won't be able to use the sound card as the USB host interface isn't operating within windows. I used the AsMedia USB3.0 Driver 1.16.29.1 driver found here - Īgain - This fixed the sound cutting issue, and generally all the weird problems I was having with this sound card for me.
The problem is that the Asus soundcard drivers don't include what Asus deems as acceptable for the ASMEDIA USB drivers in the install! I believe many of the issues with this soundcard would be fixed if Asus included these in their install, or at least directed users to update to the latest distribution of the ASMEDIA USB drivers. This sound card uses an ASMEDIA USB hub to interface with the PCIE slot, so it makes sense that if the drivers for this were bad we'd have issues. I believe the problem is related to having bad/out of date drivers for the asmedia USB chipset. I was having problems with the sound cutting / microphone going crazy on Windows 10 with this sound card, and ever since I updated the ASMEDIA USB drivers on my machine I no longer have the problem.
